Over five decades of die-cast aluminium: pressmetall blends traditional values with present technological requirements

Pressmetall was established as "PMG Gunzenhausen Galsterer & Co. KG" on 20 September 1962. In the year that follows, the company begins manufacturing die-cast parts.

Further development reflects the typical characteristics of the success story of a German medium-sized industrial company at that time. With plenty of diligence and a high level of personal commitment, over the years to come the company founders and employees create a broad base for the future development of the aluminium foundry. Step by step, PMG increases its own capacity and always keeps an eye on current technological developments.

Even at an early stage there are signs that the main focus will be on the automotive industry. In 1978 the aluminium foundry starts including machining as a production step. In 2002 Pressmetall Gunzenhausen has nearly 500 employees and supplies not only medium-sized companies but also global groups, chiefly in the automotive industry. To increase the existing capacity, a new, hi-tech foundry building is constructed at the Gunzenhausen site in 2004. By extending its amount of plant and machinery the foundry increases its own range of locking force to a level of up to 1,350 tonnes in 2007.

The economic crisis of 2008/2009 has a detrimental impact on the entire German foundry industry, and "Pressmetall" is also affected. In June 2012, GDC German Die Casting GmbH takes over all the shares in PMG. When Druckguss Hoym GmbH is taken over in April 2013 the two companies are transferred to "pressmetall".

In December 2019, pressmetall goes into a self-determined restructuring process in self-administration in order to reposition the group of companies. Self-administration allows the management to advance and implement the restructuring independently and with the support of external consultants.

With effect from October 1, 2020, LMG Manufacturing GmbH will take over the entire business operations of the Hoym location and will continue to do so without restriction.

The search for investors for the Gunzenhausen site is still ongoing, but it is very advanced.
