For the optimal design of aluminium die-casting components and the associated process, we use the findings of different simulations. Thanks to MAGMASOFT 5.1. PMG dispose of a simulation program, based on the finite-difference method (FDM), whereby the die-casting process can be simulated from the mold filling to the solidification. In the first step, the solidification of the component is simulated. On the basis of the solidification simulation, conclusions to the side-cutting position and the interpretation of the cooling system are taken, to achieve directional solidification. The subsequent filling simulation has a view to create optimal deadhead geometry and to position the bleeder and the vent duct exactly. Both at the filling simulation as well as the solidification simulation it is possible to observe the temperature distribution in the casting part and in the tool, to assess the effect of the cooling system. Therefore important knowledge already can be integrated in the parallel to the simulation running construction of the die casting tool previously.
